These women universally express
the conviction that their stories can provide a common thread
of compassion to bind the wounds that divide people in the U.S.
and Vietnam. They feel a particular bond with American wives and
mothers who have shared their pain and fought similar battles
to preserve the values of home, family, and tradition against
the corrosive influences of war, greed, and 'progress.'

FILMMAKER BIOGRAPHY
Mel Halbach
Mel's six trips to Vietnam dating back to 1991 has culminated
in his award winning documentary The Long Haired Warriors.
His other film awards include Best Documentary, Experimental for
The Game at the Ann Arbor Film Festival; Best of Show for
The Game at the 1991 Utah Film and Video Festival, and
Honorable Mention for Malignant at the Oswego Film Festival
in New York. He has twice been the recipient of the Mort Rosenfeld
Award honoring Utah film makers of promise. Mel has produced
and edited three other Vietnam shorts and is currently the Editor
and Assistant Cinematographer for another feature length Vietnam
documentary, The Healing Continues, produced and directed
by Carla Woodmansee. Mel received a B.S. in Secondary Education
from the University of Wisconsin Madison and an M.F.A. in film
from the University of Utah. Mel is an Associate Instructor of
film and is currently the producer/director of the Media Center
at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.
